UBA Mali launches mobile money service

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Mali has launched Sama by UBA, a money transfer and mobile payment service developed through a partnership between Sama Money SA, Bamako and UBA. The bank aims to take a share of the mobile payment market dominated by telecom operators to date in Mali.
Sama by UBA works across all three networks available in Mali. In the second phase of its development, Sama by UBA will be available in several countries of the sub-region.
The bank claims the cost of its service is up to 40 percent lower than other money transfer tools, while it also offers offline support and service over WhatsApp. In addition, users can pay their electricity and water bills free of charge, and it supports top-ups on three Mali phone networks as well as select TV channel providers.
