Nigerian fertilizer mogul Thomas Etuh donates $500,000 hospital to rural community

Thomas Etuh, a Nigerian multimillionaire who built his fortune in importing urea fertilizers, has donated a hospital and skill acquisition center to Ifewara community in Osun State in the country’s southwest region.

The new center, which was built at a cost of more than $500,000, is named the Jennifer Etuh Medical Center, after his late wife who passed away in 2020.

The facilty seats on a six-hectare land and has an outpatient, surgery, pharmacy, consulting rooms, labor and delivery room, an accident, observation, and emergency room and ophthalmology clinic. It also has a theater for surgical and gynecological procedures, and a full-services morgue.

The facility was officially commissioned on Wednesday, the 26th of April, 2023 during a ceremony that was attended by Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, and Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the head of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal church.

During his remarks at the launch of the Medical Center, Etuh expressed concern over the fact that only 20 percent out of Nigeria’s 30,000 primary health centers are functional.

The facility aims to provide available, accessible and affordable world-class health care services to women, children and the people of Osun State and Nigeria as a whole to help live a healthy and fulfilling life.

The facility which was built to assist those that reside in Ifewara would be managed by the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The Jennifer Etuh Medical Center, Ifewara, is the third in a series of full-service hospitals to be built by Thomas Etuh in memory of his late wife, Jennifer Ramatu Etuh.

“My late wife wondered why certain medical care was only for certain people. Therefore, the need to establish medical center to address health Challenges and provide access to quality medical care for vulnerable populations,” Etuh said.

Etuh is one of Nigeria’s wealthiest entrepreneurs. He is the founder of TAK Group, an agro-allied conglomerate.

The company owns fertilizer blending plants across Nigeria and manufactures and distributes seeds and Agrochemicals.
