The Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Muhammed Sani Kintoro IV, has appealed to the state government to intervene in the supply of portable drinking water for the people of New Bussa and his Emirate because the Kainji Dam has affected their traditional water sources.
He made the appeal in his palace when Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, visited him.The monarch decried the perennial scarcity of water in his chiefdom.
Alhaji Kintoror lamented that despite the presence of the dam in New Bussa, the people face acute hardship due to lack of portable water supply.
“The government should assist in drilling boreholes because the dam had affected all traditional water sources for the people”, he said.
Gov Bello thanked the Emir for his blunt nature and assured him that his administration was fine-turning arrangement to supply portable water to New Bussa.
According to him, the government has earmarked N43m for water supply project in New Bussa, adding that water experts have been mobilised on site for the project.
The governor explained that he was on mid-term assessment tour of the state, adding that the tour was aimed at ensuring that campaign promises are fulfilled.
